Collingwood was unable to capitalise on a strong start and was defeated at Port Melbourne on Sunday.
The Magpies led at every change but conceded eight goals in the final term to eventually fall to the Borough, 10.4 (64) to 15.16 (106).
The Pies took the game to Port early, booting six goals in the opening term.
Brayden Sier was especially productive, collecting 13 touches and a goal by quarter-time.
Tyler Brown and Josh Daicos complemented Sier well in the middle, while Matthew Scharenberg made a number of strong contests in his return from a knee injury.
Scharenberg took a seat after the end of the second term, finishing with 13 touches in an encouraging first game back.
The Pies came under pressure after building a decent quarter-time lead, but mostly managed to keep the Borough at bay.
Their lead was trimmed to 14 at half-time and to 11 at three-quarter time. The floodgates opened in the final term however, as Port finished by far the stronger side.
Sier led all Magpies by finishing with 34 disposals. Alex Woodward was just behind with 21 and nine tackles, while Daicos remained busy inside for the rest of the game to finish with 20 touches.
