HeartKids is encouraging Australian bosses, managers, supervisors, executives and leaders across the country to channel their inner superhero on Friday 31 May in support of Super Boss Day, a HeartKids fundraising initiative to help those impacted by congenital heart disease (CHD).
Bosses have an opportunity to don a super hero outfit for one day and join the mission to increase awareness of CHD, while also raising funds to support impacted families.
Kids living with CHD (known as “Heart Kids”) are courageous heroes every day. Super Boss Day is an opportunity for leaders within the community to acknowledge the fighting spirit of these brave kids by registering to join a national crusade, led by HeartKids and Australia’s leading paediatric cardiologists from children’s hospitals around the country.
Eight babies are born with CHD every day and four lives are tragically lost each week. CHD is the leading cause of death in Australian babies under the age of one. It’s a lifelong condition and there’s no known cure.
Funds raised through Super Boss Day 2019 will help HeartKids deliver vital services including in-hospital and family support programs, camps for children and young people living with CHD, as well as vital education days and peer support programs to help families cope with the emotional and financial burden of the disease.
This year HeartKids will also expand its support for families as they navigate trauma and manage the significant social, emotional and physical challenges associated with CHD.
Each Super Boss can create a personal fundraising page and encourage their colleagues, friends, family and their community to support HeartKids. Workers can nominate their boss to rise to the challenge.
HeartKids CEO Rob Lutter said, “Super Boss Day is a light-hearted way for Australian organisations to harness their strength, numbers and influence, in order to help seriously ill babies and children and their families.
“We all dream of being a hero – what could be more heroic than fighting Australia’s leading causes of death and hospitalisation in infants, and raising funds to support the tens of thousands of people living with CHD?”
HeartKids is the only charity in Australia dedicated to supporting kids with CHD, and their families throughout life. It relies on community support to provide services and fund life-changing and vital medical research projects.
