Collingwood has appointed respected and highly credentialed sports scientist Bill Davoren to the position of High Performance Manager.

Boasting over a decade of experience heading strength and conditioning programs in elite sport, Davoren joins Collingwood after stints working with the Western Bulldogs and, most recently, St Kilda.

With Collingwood recently completing a multi-million dollar overhaul of its Westpac Centre training facility, which included installation of the largest altitude training room in the Southern Hemisphere, Davoren’s arrival continues the regeneration of the Magpies ahead of the 2014 campaign.

Off-field, Rodney Eade has succeeded Geoff Walsh as Director of Football, Scott Burns has joined coach Nathan Buckley’s staff as midfield assistant, former midfield coach Robert Harvey has been elevated to the role of senior assistant and Steve Grace has joined the club as a development coach. On-field, Jesse White, Taylor Adams and Patrick Karnezis have been recruited and national recruiting manager Derek Hine will take picks 6 and 10 to the Gold Coast for next month’s AFL National Draft.

A former national performance director at Triathlon Australia, Davoren was at the helm of a world leading program which yielded a then unprecedented medal haul during the 2008 Olympic Games, guiding Emma Snowsill and Emma Moffat to gold and bronze in the women’s event.

Davoren next worked with the Western Bulldogs where, in the wake of his Olympic success, he was appointed high performance manager ahead of the 2009 AFL season.

Linking with then Bulldogs senior coach Eade, Davoren oversaw a strength and conditioning program which helped propel the Bulldogs to back-to-back preliminary final appearances.

Davoren subsequently joined St Kilda at the end of 2012 and spent a season in Seaford.
