Collingwood’s first potential father-daughter pick, Tarni Brown, has been selected in the 2020 AFLW academy.

Daughter of Collingwood great, Gavin Brown, and sister to the AFL program’s Callum and Tyler, Tarni will join 35 other 17-year-olds next month for an accelerated football and personal development program.  

The nine-month program involves high performance camps and training sessions with AFLW clubs across the country.

The youngest member of the Brown clan will be eligible for the AFLW draft next year which could see Collingwood recruit their first father-daughter pick.

If selected, 2021 could see all three Brown siblings in the black and white.

Known for her skill on the basketball court, Tarni Brown picked up a Sherrin for the first time two years ago.

This year, Brown played 10 games in the NAB League Girls competition for the Eastern Ranges – the same junior club as her brothers. 

Oldest brother Callum was drafted to the Pies in 2016 and has played 35 games since his Queen’s birthday debut against Melbourne in 2017. This year the 21-year-old kicked 11 goals and has become one of the team’s leading pressure players. 

Tyler Brown has been developing in the VFL program after been taken with pick 50 in the 2017 draft. Although yet to make his AFL debut, Brown came close throughout the season, often being named as an emergency. 

Gavin Brown played 254 games for Collingwood from 1987 to 2000. A three-time All Australian, from 1994 Brown captained the side for five seasons and was awarded the club’s best and fairest Copeland Trophy on three occasions.
