Collingwood is back on the VFL winner’s list after recording a three-point victory over Frankston on Sunday.
The Magpies were quick to finish with Tyler Brown kicking the match-winning goal that took the Pies’ into a two-point lead in the dying minutes of the game.
Andrew Gallucci soon followed with an opportunity at goal but only managed a behind, which saw the Pies take home the win, 7.14 (56) to 7.11 (53).
Magpies coach Jared Rivers was pleased with his team’s execution of basic skills and smart use of the ball.
“It was a scrappy four quarters but to come away with four points was pleasing so a good result in the end,” Rivers told collingwoodfc.com.au.
The lead was exchanged between the two teams throughout the entire match with only a few points separating them at each change of ends.
The Dolphins brought a strong one-on-one contest, which the Magpies managed to stand up to in the second half.
But the Pies struggled to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal in the final term, booting five behinds.

Sam Glover dominated up forward, piling four goals on the scoreboard.
Rupert Willis had great impact particularly in the first half tallying 32 disposals alongside Adam Oxley with 28.
Brown’s efforts were also praised through the midfield.
“His contest around the footy and kicking an important goal late to get us in front and overall I thought his impact was really good,” said Rivers.
The Pies now face ladder-leading Richmond at the Holden Centre on Friday afternoon.
“It’ll be a good test against Richmond, who are the probably the in-form team at VFL level that will be a really good and exciting opportunity for us,” said Rivers.
