Taylor Adams has signed a long-term deal to remain at the heart of the Collingwood midfield.

The 25-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract extension that sees him committed until the end of the 2024 season.

Adams has endured a luckless 2019 campaign, with an adductor injury limiting him to five matches, but has been a leader on and off the field in his near five completed seasons at the Holden Centre.

He has been a member of Collingwood’s leadership group for three seasons and has finished fourth, sixth, second and fifth in the Copeland Trophy count across the last four years.

After his injury enforced lay-off Adams is available for AFL selection this week.

Collingwood List Manager, Ned Guy, described the new deal as a mutual show of faith.

“‘Tay’ has distinguished himself in big games. He played superbly in last season’s finals series and has always displayed great heart and intensity,” Guy said.

“He demands a lot of himself and his team-mates and his prime years as a player have arrived. We like what we see ahead for him just as he likes what he sees ahead for the team.

“With that we were both happy to make a wholehearted investment in a future together.”

Adams has played 94 matches with Collingwood, after crossing from Greater Western Sydney at the end of the 2014 season. He has played a total of 125 matches.

He was voted Collingwood’s player of the finals in 2018 and was runner-up to Luke Shuey in the voting for the Norm Smith medal.
