Collingwood's VFL team has suffered another close loss, this time at the hands of Geelong.
The Magpies were excellent in the early stages, with their tackling and contested work earning them a lead at half-time.
But Geelong made the most of its chances in the third quarter, kicking some clinical goals against the run of play.
Geelong had opened up a 25-point lead when Wylie Buzza slotted his fifth goal early in the last quarter.
But the Pies kept coming, and produced a late surge to threaten the hosts.
Andrew Gallucci ran into an open goal to trim the lead to seven points deep in time-on, as it looked like a grandstand finish could be on the cards. But the Cats held on to win by that margin.
Alex Woodward continued his strong start to the season, collecting 32 disposals.
Ben Crocker (26), Brayden Sier (24) and Josh Daicos (23) were all also prolific on the stats sheet.
The result leaves the Pies stuck on one win after six VFL matches.
Their next task is up against reigning premier Box Hill at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon.
