A host of key senior Magpies are in contention to make their returns from injury at AFL and VFL levels this weekend.
Jeremy Howe (calf tightness), Darcy Moore (hamstring) and Tom Phillips (illness), who all missed last Saturday’s loss to Essendon, and Daniel Wells, who has not played since round 11 owing to a calf injury, are all in the frame to play this week.
Howe was a late withdrawal due to calf tightness, but General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh told Collingwood Media’s Blackmores Injury Update the club expects Howe to train during the week as he seeks to prove his fitness ahead of the trip to the Gold Coast.

Moore, too, is expected to put his hand up to travel north, provided he overcomes his hamstring complaint.
“Darcy’s hamstring wasn’t a significant one, but there were certainly enough signs there that said to play him last week would have been a risk not worth taking,” Walsh said.
“As long as we see some good movement on the track this week from Darcy, and we expect that to be the case, we would think he will be putting his hand up for selection.”
Rising Star nominee Phillips spent time in hospital last week while battling illness.
Fortunately, the 21-year-old is a likely returnee this weekend.
“Tom lost a couple of kilos during that time in hospital, but he is back training now and we will put that weight back on him fairly quickly,” Walsh said.
Better still, Daniel Wells is likely to put his hand up for a return in some capacity this weekend.
“Pleasingly, Wells has been quite strong in his progress in the last few weeks.
“As I said last week, we were hoping he would be available for selection. That will be the case after a full week of training this week, he will join in everything and we would expect that Daniel will be available for selection at the end of this week.”
Wells was averaging 18.6 disposals in his six games before injury struck.
