Brown said while the team has a lot of improvement in it after an “indifferent" first three quarters, he was particularly impressed with the perseverance shown by the team to storm home in the last quarter, after trailing by 25 points at the final change.
“I think the most pleasing aspect was that the boys really stuck at it and persevered and got over the line by three points", said Brown.
“I mean, really we were looking at, at three-quarter time, we thought the Kangaroos probably could’ve kept going, so it was a great effort by our boys just to persevere and hang in there really."
The 1990 premiership player and form club captain said it was obvious where the side improved in the last quarter.
“I think the turning point, the way we assessed it, is we certainly ran a lot harder as a group, particularly some individuals, but certainly as a group we ran a lot harder."
“We got the ball in there a lot more direct to our key position players such as Travis (Cloke) and particularly Anthony (Rocca) who gave us a contest, and allowed our crumbing players to get involved, so I think those two things in particular, the hard running in the last quarter, and the more direct approach to the footy."
Brown also assessed the performances of three Magpies who stood out on the weekend in Heath Shaw, for his hard running and ball winning across half back, Dale Thomas, for his ability to work himself into the game and have an impact, and Paul Medhurst, who booted two important goals in his Collingwood debut.
