The VFL have today announced the final 21-player team to participate in the AAMI Women’s State Game this Friday night at Alberton Oval.
It will be the first ever women’s representative match since the VFLW was established in 2017.
Of the 21 players named, four Magpies made the final rebel VFLW State Team, including Collingwood’s VFLW captain and reigning VFLW Best and Fairest winner Dominique Carbone, who has also been appointed captain of the State Team.
Carbone joined the Magpies in the off-season having previously captained the Western Bulldogs’ VFLW team to the 2024 grand final, their first grand final appearance since 2019. Averaging a league-high 18.4 disposals across the 2024 season, Carbone also earned VFLW Team of the Year honours as a ruck rover.
Joining Carbone are Tahlia Fellows, Lily-Rose Williamson, and Collingwood VFLW vice-captain Lauren Szigeti, all fellow new recruits to the Club's VFLW program in 2025.
Fellows, who was an inaugural Hawthorn AFLW player, played 18 games across three seasons with the Hawks since 2022. In her first season, Fellows was named as Most Improved Player at the Club’s best and fairest.
Prior to being signed by Hawthorn, Fellows spent two seasons with the Casey Demons in the VFLW, where she earned VFLW Rising Star and Team of the Year honours.
Williamson joined Collingwood’s VFLW list following three seasons as an inaugural Essendon AFLW player. Signing with the Bombers as an 18-year-old, the versatile midfielder made her AFLW debut in Round 4 of her first season, however injury limited her to just eight games over three seasons.
Collingwood VFLW vice-captain Szigeti rounds out Collingwood’s State Team inclusions. Starting her career in the VFLW with Darebin and Hawthorn, Szigeti was one of Sydney’s first player signings prior to their entry to the AFLW competition.
After 20 games over three seasons with the Swans, Szigeti joined Collingwood’s VFLW side bringing with her a wealth of leadership experience, having been named one of Sydney’s inaugural co-captains in 2022.
All four players will don the ‘Big V’ against the SANFLW State Team on Friday night as part of an action-packed AFL Gather Round weekend in South Australia.
