Collingwood youngster Paul Seedsman has been recognised for his damaging display against Brisbane at the Gabba last week with best on ground honours in the latest round of AFLCA Champion Player of the Year voting.

Collecting 28 disposals, including nine inside 50s, Seedsman proved an influential force across the half back line, receiving eight votes for his efforts as his dash and penetrating kick enabled the Magpies to launch attacks in transition.

Seedsman narrowly edged out Dane Swan for man of the match honours, the renowned ball magnet revelling in the wide spaces of the Gabba, his 36 touches, five clearances and two goals signalling a welcome return to the form which saw him claim the 2011 Brownlow Medal.

Scott Pendlebury meanwhile confirmed his status as Collingwood’s leading performer this season, reclaiming his place inside the AFLCA top ten, four votes the reward for a characteristically polished 28 disposal performance by the three-time All Australian.

Steele Sidebottom’s continued emergence saw him allotted four votes despite a rare goalless display, his 31 touches and six tackles earmarking him as one of the star performers of the evening, helping drive the side to its sixth victory of the season.

Another impressive lockdown effort from Brent Macaffer, this time on Brisbane’s Pearce Hanley, was acknowledged with three votes, while debutant Kyle Martin received two, having co-lead the Magpies in clearances with six, and snaring two goals in an impressive debut.

Brisbane veteran Simon Black and Collingwood’s Darren Jolly rounded out the voting, claiming one each.

With Travis Cloke an illness enforced absentee, Pendlebury, 33 votes, extends his lead atop the club leader board to 12, with Sidebottom climbing ahead of the Collingwood power forward to second spot on 21, sitting three clear with Harry O’Brien and Swan then rounding out the top five.

Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett remains the overall leader with 55 votes, sitting 10 clear of reigning Brownlow Medallist Jobe Watson, while Sydney’s Daniel Hannebery rounds out the top three, a single vote further back.
