Collingwood has today welcomed Dan Houston in a three-way trade with Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast SUNS.

Collingwood has signed Dan Houston from Port Adelaide and has received pick 58 (Port Adelaide) in the 2024 AFL National Draft. In exchange, Joe Richards will depart the Club for Port Adelaide and John Noble will arrive at the Gold Coast SUNS. Collingwood will also give up pick 36 in the upcoming draft to Port Adelaide and its future first round selection to the Gold Coast SUNS.

Houston has signed a six-year contract with the Pies.

The 27-year-old played 168 games across eight campaigns with the Power and was a part of their leadership team this year. The defender has two All Australian blazers (2023 and 2024), was part of the 22under22 team (2019), and has finished in the top three of the Power’s Best and Fairest count on three occasions (2019, 2022, 2023).

Houston will make the move back home to Melbourne and reunite with some familiar faces at the Pies, having played at Oakleigh Chargers with Darcy Moore, Jordan De Goey and Lachie Sullivan.

Richards arrives at Port Adelaide as a part of the deal. The forward was selected by Collingwood as a mature-age pick from Wangaratta in the 2022 AFL National Draft and has played nine games at AFL level.

The 24-year-old made his AFL debut in Round Nine this year in a 66-point defeat against the West Coast Eagles.

Joe Richards said:

“Thank you to Collingwood for taking a chance on me – I only dreamed of playing AFL at the highest level.

“To the boys, the coaches, and the staff, I appreciate the support over the past two years and welcoming me into what really is a great Club.

“I will always remember my time at the Pies.”

The trade also sees Noble arrive at the Gold Coast SUNS. Earlier this month, Noble informed the Club of his decision to explore a trade up north to be closer to family.

Noble was drafted to Collingwood at pick 14 through the 2019 Mid-Season Rookie Draft. He played 112 games in the black and white across six seasons.

In Round 10 against the Adelaide Crows this year, the 27-year-old celebrated 100 career games.

John Noble said:

“I’d sincerely like to thank the Collingwood Football Club, particularly Derek Hine and Ned Guy, for believing in me as a 22-year-old kid from Adelaide.

“I want to thank all the coaches, high performance, medical and administration staff who have been part of my journey at the Club.

“I will be forever grateful for the opportunity Collingwood gave me. I have made lifelong friends in my time at the Club, and I wish them and the football club ongoing success.”

Collingwood Head of Football Strategy, Innovation and List Management Justin Leppitsch said:

“We are so pleased to see Dan arrive at Collingwood.

“While his talent is clear, we also know we are bringing in a great leader and person.

“With eight years at AFL level, Dan comes in as a ready-made player who can impact our program.

“As part of this deal, we farewell to two quality individuals in John and Joe and we thank them for their contributions to our Club.

“John came to us as a mid-season pick, and his toughness and resilience enabled him to play over 100 games at our Club. John will always be a Collingwood person.

“Whilst Joe, we saw great growth in him during his time at our Club and know he will continue to develop at AFL level. We respect his intention to head to Port for further opportunity and wish him well.”
