Collingwood has named its side for Friday’s Round 22 clash against the Sydney Swans at the SCG.

Joe Richards comes into the side to replace Jordan De Goey, who sustained a season ending hamstring injury in last weekend’s win over Carlton.

Nathan Kreuger, Lachlan Sullivan and Wil Parker have been named as the three emergencies.

The tactical substitute will be selected from the extended bench and will be named 60 minutes prior to the first bounce.

Richards has played seven games this year since his debut in Round Nine versus West Coast, kicking five goals and averaging 3.4 tackles a game.

Friday’s clash will mark Vice-Captain Jeremy Howe’s 250th game at AFL level. Howe debuted for Melbourne in Round 11, 2011 against Essendon at the MCG after being selected at Pick 33 in the 2010 National Draft.

After going unselected in the previous year’s (2009) draft, the former Tasmanian Under 18 representative moved to Tasmanian State League Club Hobart from his local club Dodges Ferry to seek greater exposure.

With peroxide blonde hair, the high-flying Howe quickly made a name for himself thanks to his signature ‘specky’ marks and was selected by the Demons with their second pick in the 2010 draft.

After five seasons in red and blue, Howe joined the Magpies at the end of 2015 and the natural born leader quickly cemented himself as a key cog in the Magpies wheel. The Tasmanian joined the Magpies’ leadership group for the first time in 2018 and seven years later Howe is a Premiership Vice-Captain and a trusted lieutenant to Skipper Darcy Moore.

In a feat of symmetry, Friday’s clash will be the defender’s 150th in black and white, after Howe played 100 games for Melbourne from 2011 – 2015.

Across his career Howe has played at both ends of the ground, having kicked 80 goals for Melbourne. The 190cm utility has spent most of his Collingwood days down back, averaging 6.4 marks a game in black and white.

Most well-known for his flying marks, Howe has been nominated for the AFL’s Mark of the Year on 35 occasions and won the award in 2012 for a huge leap at the SCG over Sydney’s Heath Grundy.
