It’s a Grand Final Super Sunday this weekend, as both Collingwood and Richmond’s Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL) and Community Wheelchair Football League (CWFL) teams are set to go head-to-head.

It will be the third Grand Final meeting between Collingwood and Richmond, with each team having won once in their previous encounters in 2018 and 2019. The Pies will be eager to seek revenge for their 2019 defeat.

It’s been a whirlwind season for Collingwood, marked by 10 rounds featuring two byes, three losses, and five wins.

But the Pies have seemingly bounced back from their dip in form, which started with the 153-point victory against Hawthorn in Round 10.

Their strength lies in how even and flexible the team is.

Over the last few weeks, Captain Ben Jankovski has experimented with formation, and it seems they’ve found the right mix. In his words, “everyone has got a role to roll with.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers have appeared in five of the last six Grand Finals, the last three consecutively, and on Sunday, will be hoping to make up for their 65-point loss in last year’s decider.

Since the beginning of the league’s inception back in 2018, Richmond have always been the benchmark; the 2024 season has been no different.

After another dominant year, Richmond secured the top spot on the ladder in both competitions and then a direct path to the Grand Final by winning both of their qualifying finals in week one of the finals series.

It’s been an almost blemish-free season for the yellow-and-black. They lost only one game this year (v St Kilda in round seven), whom Collingwood recently defeated in the Preliminary Finals.
