Scott Pendlebury has been selected to play for Collingwood for the 400th time at AFL level.
Pendlebury will make V/AFL history when he becomes just the sixth player in the game’s history, and first in Club history, to reach the milestone in Saturday night’s Round 21 clash against Carlton.
Jordan De Goey will return for the clash for his 169th career game, after missing last week’s game through a groin issue.
Beau McCreery has also been selected, returning to the side for his 74th career game and first since sustaining a calf injury in Round 16, while Billy Frampton returns after spending two games in the VFL.
Lachie Sullivan, Wil Parker and Harvey Harrison are the three omissions and will be the three emergences for Saturday’s clash.
The substitute will be named 60 minutes prior to the first bounce and will be selected from the extended bench.
Saturday’s game will be the 66th time Craig McRae has submitted a team sheet with Pendlebury’s name on it, while Nathan Buckley is the leader having coached the midfielder 202 times. Mick Malthouse (127 games) and Robert Harvey (five games as caretaker coach in 2021) are the other two men to have coached Collingwood’s all-time games record holder.
Pendlebury played his first game in Round 10, 2006 against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG, in a side that included players like Nathan Buckley who was playing his 263rd game and Scott Burns who was playing his 207th AFL game. Pendlebury would later join the pair on the illustrious list of players to Captain the Collingwood Football Club.
Pendlebury reached his 50th game in Round 19, 2008 against St Kilda, his 100th game in the 2010 Preliminary Final against Geelong, his 150th in Round Two, 2013 against Carlton and 200th in Round Eight, 2015 against the Gold Coast Suns.
His 250th game was in Round 15, 2017 against Hawthorn, 300th in the 2019 Qualifying Final against Geelong and his 350th in Round 18, 2022 against Adelaide.
He broke the all-time games played record for Collingwood in Round 18, 2020 against Port Adelaide when he pulled on the black and white stripes for the 314th time. He surpassed 1990 Premiership Captain Tony Shaw who held the record for 26 years.
The 36-year-old becomes the quickest to reach the 400-game milestone, reaching the coveted ‘400-club’ in 18 years and 61 days.
Pendlebury has played alongside 167 different teammates, with Steele Sidebottom the leader on 301 occasions – the most of any current pairing in the AFL and equal third most in V/AFL history.
The clash against the Magpies’ arch rivals will be Pendlebury’s 31st against Carlton. The ‘Navy Blues’ are Pendlebury’s second most opposed Club behind Essendon on 34.
