One of Collingwood’s all-time favourite players, Peter Daicos, turns 50 years old today.
Daicos played 250 games for the Magpies (1979-93) and booted 549 goals, the fourth most in club history.
The idol of most Collingwood fans, Daicos won two Copeland Trophies (1982 and 1988) and topped the club’s goalkicking list in four seasons (1981, ’82, ’90 and ’91).
The Macedonian Marvel was part of the famous 32-year drought breaking premiership win in 1990. In a season where he kicked 97 goals, Daicos booted two memorable majors in the 48-point win.
Below is a description of Peter Daicos in the well-known Collingwood book, A Century of the Best.
"Peter Daicos' game is one to which no amount of words can do justice. Future generations should be grateful that he ruled during the video age, for it means they will be able to see for themselves the wizardry that makes him so special - a luxury denied to the football public with most of the game's masters. But not even a comprehensive package of video highlights would do Daicos justice, for it could not adequately convey the sensation of being able to watch him weave his magic week-in, week-out."
That being said, CTV has uploaded a video package of Daicos.
Send your birthday messages to Daics and include your favourite moment of the Daicos era.
