Collingwood will face Carlton for the 265th time at V/AFL on Friday night, as the old rivals come head-to-head at the MCG.

With the overall record sitting at 131 wins to Collingwood, 129 wins to Carlton and four draws, the traditional enemies have always been hard to split. But with the Blues sitting at five wins and two losses, and Magpies at three wins, three losses and a draw, the clash has implications that go beyond bragging rights.

Last time they met

It was the Blues who ran out 17-point victors in Round 20, 2023 with a six goal haul from Charlie Curnow spearheading their charge.

For the Magpies, defender Jeremy Howe swung forward to kick three goals and have nine score involvements, which were his first majors of the season. While ten intercept possessions from Captain Darcy Moore and another nine score involvements to Nick Daicos headlined the stats sheet for Collingwood.

Ins and Outs

The Round Eight clash will see the Magpies blood new talent in the form of SSP signing Lachie Sullivan, as Jordan De Goey and Tom Mitchell miss the fixture through injury. Oleg Markov also returns to the side after strong VFL form.

Sullivan makes his debut after being signed by the Club in February. Having been overlooked in countless drafts, 26-year-old Sullivan plied his trade in the VFL for Port Melbourne and Footscray, winning two Best and Fairest awards at Footscray and being selected as Captain in the 2023 VFL Team of the Year.

Players to watch

After playing his first game of 2024 in last week’s ANZAC Day clash, Harvey Harrison is one to watch. The 20-year-old kicked a goal and had seven disposals from 25% game time after coming on as substitute.

Brody Mihocek continues his consistent form, kicking three goals in Round Seven, taking him to the top of the Magpies’ leading goalkicking list with 14.

Uniting for an important cause

Pre-game Collingwood and Carlton FC players, coaches and AFL Umpires will come together in a circle arm-in-arm to pay tribute to the women who have lost their lives to gender-based violence.

31 years of the Peter Mac Cup

The clash between Collingwood and Carlton marks the 31st edition of the Peter Mac Cup. The Peter Mac Cup is the longest running charity match in VFL/AFL history, with the first clash taking place in 1993. Each year, the traditional rivals come together for one important cause – to support ground-breaking cancer research at Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Fans are encouraged to donate the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre here.
