Collingwood has gone down to Coburg by 15 points on Sunday afternoon at Piranha Park.
It was a scrappy start to the game at Piranha Park, with the Pies piling on four behinds before they managed to find the big sticks.
A three-goal to two first term in favour of Coburg saw the visitors trail at quarter-time, however a Jack Hutchinson screamer lifted them in the second.
Hutchinson kicked two of the Pies' four goals in the second term, as Coburg kept applying the scoreboard pressure.
Coburg kicked the first three goals of the third term, with the Pies not able to find the big sticks all quarter as they went into the final change 18 points in arrears.
Ben Crocker kicked the first goal of the final quarter to bring the margin back to 13 points, however Coburg responded strongly with a goal five minutes later.
The Lions kept attacking, with Collingwood unable to get the game back on their terms.
Hutchinson soars for incredible grab
With Coburg controlling the early stages of the second quarter, the Pies needed a spark to get them going, and they got it in spades from Jack Hutchinson. The forward, who is in just his fourth game at VFL level, is renowned for his ability to fly high and put it on full display at Piranha Park with a stellar grab. The 22-year-old leaped from deep in the pack and soared above all else, bringing down a brilliant mark 25 meters out from goal, before going back and slotting his second for the quarter.
Parker slots his first from defence
It didn’t take long for new Pies Wil Parker to make an impact in his first game of football in almost five years, with the defender kicking a goal with one of his first kicks of the day. The 21-year-old only joined the Club in February and has been training away for the past two months to get himself ready for the rigours of AFL and VFL, with his first outing an impressive one. Recording 20 disposals and five marks, Parker showed poise off half back and didn’t look out of place at all given his length out of the game.
Glover stars in milestone match
Playing as the side’s deepest defender in his 50th VFL match, Co-captain Sam Glover was crucial on Sunday. The tall often found himself running across to defend and be a third-man up, while also winning plenty of one-on-ones when his side needed it most. The newly appointed skipper has played all four of his games in defence this year despite playing much of his career at Collingwood in the forward half, with Glover’s versatility a feature of his 50 matches at VFL level. Glover finished with 23 disposals and five marks.
Collingwood's next match will be against Essendon at Victoria Park on Saturday.
