Or to put it another way………….

LET MORTAL COMBAT BEGIN

My Gran was a hard one.
Not hard like a Pattaya ping pong tournament mind you.
She was real hard. As hard as Jack Anthony’s forehead!
That woman was tougher than a two dollar steak.

She loved the Pies as much as she loved a bargain.
Conversely she hated the Tiges like a Frenchman hates soap.

I wonder what she’d make of things now.

See Gran went to that great big deep fryer in the sky (truth be known, the deep frying was done in Springvale but that’s another story) back in the 80’s.

Back in those days Adelaide was just a place full of “crazy people like that Phil Carman fellow”.

And once again the Mighty Fightin’ Pies find themselves heading over to the Land That Time Forgot for another winner takes all final. (Just in case anybody is confused I am talking about South Australia and not New Zealand – by the way, whatever happened to the Old Zealand?)

I love this time of year.
As Prince Charles said to Camilla, it’s do or Di.

Play well now and you’re a legend.

This column told you back when the Sheahan was hitting the Black ‘n’ White fan that we would make the finals.
Unequivocal it was dear Spudsters.
Everybody was preaching that the Pies were all over the shop like speed cameras on the Hume Highway but we stuck fat like Bert Newton’s smile.

Well we here at the Stately Spud Manor are about to make eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenuvva BIG call:

Last week’s diabolical performance against the Dockers was actually a good thing!
There I’ve said it.

There can be no chance whatsoever that the Pies go into the match against the Crows with any complacency.
NO CHANCE!!

In fact that will prove to be the ultimate act of footballing subterfuge.
The Woods have successfully created the impression that they are no longer interested in the remaining weeks of the 2008 season.
A rouse so clever it could coach the Swans.

You just know those South Australian types will have fallen for it.

All that is left is for the Mighty Black’n’Whites to strike like a brewery worker before Christmas back when my Gran was still alive.

Pies to win by 19.
Jack Anthony to bag 5 straight.
Harry O best on ground!

Cor Blimey!!!!!!!
