Collingwood has announced the playing numbers of Its new recruits, as well as new numbers for two players ahead of the 2024 season.  

8 – Lachie Schultz

After arriving at Collingwood from Fremantle during the 2023 Trade Period, forward Lachie Schultz will don the number eight guernsey in 2024 and beyond. Only four players who have worn the number eight have played more than 100 games. with 2010 Premiership Player Heritier Lumumba the leader with 199, followed by Jack Hamilton (154), James Clement (146) and Des Fothergill (111).

12 – Josh Carmichael

The number 12 will be worn by Josh Carmichael in 2024, as the forward switches from the number 45 he has worn in his eight games for Collingwood since being selected.  Famously worn by Ross ‘Twiggy’ Dunne and Charlie Dibbs, who both played over 200 games for the Club, the number 12 has also been worn by four 100 game players. Luke Ball was the last Premiership player to wear the number as a member of the 2010 Premiership team.

13 – Harry DeMattia

In the 2000’s, the number 13 at Collingwood was synonymous with the long locks of Dale Thomas. Curly-haired draftee, Harry DeMattia is set to continue that tradition when he takes on the number in 2024. After being selected at pick 25 in the 2023 AFL National Draft, DeMattia will follow in the footsteps of Dick Lee (230 games), Taylor Adams (175 games), Ray Gabelich (160 games), Dale Thomas (157 games), Fred Froude (148 games), Laurie Hill (114) and Alan Richardson (114 games).

19 – Tew Jiath

Gippsland product, Tew Jiath will be in esteemed company when he takes on the number 19 guernsey. A 1990 Premiership Player and current Executive General Manager of Football, Graham Wright wore the number during his 201 games in the black and white. After being selected at pick 37 of the 2023 National Draft, lifelong Magpies fan Jiath will also have 102 game player Craig Davis to look up to as another Magpie to have worn the 19 with pride.

21 – Oscar Steene

201cm young ruck, Oscar Steene will be the latest custodian of the number 21. Selected in the 2022 AFL Pre-Season Draft, the exciting prospect will follow in the footsteps of Frank Murphy (145 games), Jim Sadler (135 games), Mark Williams (135 games), Michael Christian (131 games), Jeff Clifton (102 games) and Sharrod Wellingham (2010 Premiership Player, 92 games) as players to wear the 21 for the Magpies.

27 – Jack Bytel

After signing on with the Pies as a Pre-Season Supplementary Selection last week, Jack Bytel will wear the number 27 in 2024. Notable Magpies to wear the number include Murray Weideman (180 games) and Craig Starcevich (124 games).

33 – Lachie Sullivan

The number 33 will have a new custodian in 2024, with another of the Magpies’ Pre-Season signings, Lachie Sullivan to wear the number. 2023 Premiership Player Jack Ginnivan and 114 game player David Cloke are some of the notable past players to wear the 33 guernsey.

34 – Josh Eyre

The number 34 guernsey was made prominent in the 2000s and 2010s thanks to defender Alan Toovey, who played 159 games in the black and white, while 1990 Premiership Player Mick McGuane wore the number during his 152 games. Josh Eyre will wear the number across 2024, after signing with the Magpies last week. Eyre played nine games for Collingwood’s VFL side in 2023, wearing the number 59.
