2023 AGM – Jamie Elliott & David Galbally awarded Life Membership, Richard Moshinsky and Nick Foa recognised with Special Services Awards
Collingwood has honoured two individuals with Life Membership and recognised those with Special Services awards at the 2023 Annual General Meeting held at The Glasshouse this evening.
2023 Premiership player Jamie Elliott was admitted into the exclusive company of life members, along with David Galbally KC, while Richard Moshinsky and Nick Foa were acknowledged with Special Services Awards.
Elliott was recognised as he embarks on his 13th AFL season following a year of ultimate success with his first AFL Premiership.
Elliott has so far played 179 games for the Club across 12 seasons. This year the forward played in 24 games across Collingwood’s premiership-winning season and was impactful across all games in the Finals Series.
The 31-year-old has booted a remarkable 266 goals and has achieved team and individual success that has included Collingwood’s leading goal kicker in 2015 and 2017, the Mark of the Year in 2013, and was a part of the 22under22 team in 2014.
Elliott has arguably played his career-best football in the past two years under coach Craig McRae. Known as a player who manages crucial moments in games, Elliott will be remembered for kicking a goal after the siren to win the game for Collingwood against Essendon in Round 19 of 2022.
David Galbally KC was recognised for his contribution to the Club as a former board member across an eight year period.
During his tenure, Galbally actively engaged in player welfare and provided valued non-football support and guidance to Collingwood players and staff.
Across five decades, Galbally has provided honorary legal advice to the Club and has been a reliable resource to Club administrators and board members.
Collingwood President Jeff Browne congratulated the pair on receiving Life Membership.
“On behalf of the Collingwood Football Club, I congratulate Jamie Elliott and David Galbally on receiving Life Membership and thank them for their continued service to our Club,” Browne said.
“This year Elliott, and his teammates, created history for what has been a remarkable year for our Club as we celebrated our 16th Premiership.
“The hard work of our players – their resilience, passion, and love for the game, has inspired us all.
“Jamie’s contribution to the Premiership, as well as his 11 seasons in the black-and-white, will forever enrich the story of our Club and we look forward to achieving more success with Jamie at Collingwood.
“David has displayed extraordinary service to our Club above and beyond his years on the Board.
“David has provided assistance to the Club in numerous capacities, but most importantly through his legal expertise, and this has not gone unnoticed.
“Life Membership is our Club’s highest honour – Jamie and David deserve this recognition and we sincerely thank them for their individual contributions to Collingwood.”
Richard Moshinsky was acknowledged with a Special Services Award for his contribution to rewriting and modernising the Collingwood Constitution.
Alongside Board Member Barry Carp, Moshinsky devoted hours of legal advice and expertise on a voluntary basis to assist with creating a constitution reflecting best practice that serves the needs of a leading, modern, and progressive sporting Club.
Nick Foa has been a Board Member of the Collingwood Foundation for the past three years.
During this time, Foa’s leadership and work enabled the Collingwood Foundation to secure a Registered Housing Provider Status. This status enables the Club’s Foundation to partner with the Victorian Government to secure free premises to better serve the homeless and protects the program from risk.
Club President Jeff Browne commended Richard Moshinsky and Nick Foa for their work and dedication to the Club.
“We sincerely thank you, Richard and Nick, for your service, dedication and passion in assisting with the governance and operation of the Club,” Browne said.
“The time and work each of you have put in has been out of your pure passion and love for this Club and without any financial benefit.
“Today’s recognition is a thank you for your generosity and commitment to bettering the Collingwood Football Club.”
