Collingwood key forward Travis Cloke is aiming to prove himself not only as a dominant goal kicker, but also as a leader in season 2011.
Cloke, who is entering his seventh year at the club since he was acquired as a father/son selection in 2004, has enrolled in a leadership program at the Westpac Centre designed to train young players on what it takes to be a leader.
Speaking to Paul Licuria on CTV in the segment ‘Latte with Lica’, Cloke described his desire to stand alongside current leaders at the club.
“This is the start of my seventh year and over the last few years I had thought about stepping up to become a leader and improve my leadership skills. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, I can progress into the leadership group.
“In the emerging leadership group, Steele Sidebottom, Sharrod Wellingham, Alan Toovey and Chris Dawes participate in it. There are a few middle aged players in there so hopefully that’s our next tier of leaders to go alongside Scott Pendlebury, Harry O’Brien and Heath Shaw,” Cloke added.
The 2007 Copeland Trophy winner is intent on proving he has the capacity to be relied upon by the playing group.

“Now that I have been in the AFL system for a fair amount of time, I know what it takes to make it at this level.
“The emerging program is designed to catch up once a month. In the meantime we have set challenges and goals we aim to achieve. We have to get in front of the group and discuss different topics to show our opinion.
“For example, Steele Sidebottom is a person who sits back and shows his leadership on field more than off field.
“We have to find what suits us best and work on that area.”
