Today, the Collingwood Football Club recognises the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country in times of war.
We honour their sacrifices, pay our respects, and remember our unique history.
At Collingwood, we understand the impact of war as well as any sporting club.
One of our players, Alan Cordner, was one of the very first footballers to die in the First World War.
Cordner was killed on the first day in Gallipoli in 1915 and sadly, he would not be the last.
In all, eight Magpies died in the First World War, and a further two in the Second World War.
On days like today and ANZAC Day, we remember not only those who died but also those who served.
In all, 201 Collingwood players served across the First and Second World Wars, and the Boer War with many others completing National Service training in the fifties and sixties.
In addition to our players, there are thousands of Collingwood members and fans who have served and who continue to serve their country courageously.
Today we honour them all and say thank you.
Side by Side. Lest We Forget.
