Collingwood is pleased to announce former Captain and Brownlow medallist Peter Moore will represent the Club as the 2023 Premiership Cup Presenter.
If the Pies are successful against the Brisbane Lions in Saturday’s Toyota AFL Grand Final at the MCG, Moore will present the Premiership Cup to Senior Coach Craig McRae and Captain Darcy Moore.
Since 2004, each competing club in the AFL Grand Final nominates a representative to present the Premiership Cup in the event of a win.
Moore is a Club great – a two-time Collingwood Best and Fairest champion (E. W. Copeland Medal,1979 and 1980) and in 1979 was awarded All-Australian selection.
Moore played 172 games and kicked 193 goals across eight years for Collingwood. He went on to play a total of 249 AFL games.
Moore was named Captain of Collingwood in 1981 where he served in the role for two seasons. In 2005, he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Across his career Moore made five Grand Final appearances (1977 – draw, 1997, 1979, 1980, 1981) for Collingwood but was unlucky not to play in a premiership-winning side.
In his maiden captaincy year in 1981, Peter led the side to a Grand Final appearance with his son Darcy to follow suit this weekend.
“It’s a massive thrill and it’s a great honour that the Club has asked me to do it,” Moore said.
“Obviously me not winning one (Grand Final), I played in five for four losses and a draw all for Collingwood so to get the opportunity to present the Cup to Darce will be fantastic.”
Collingwood President Jeff Browne was delighted to nominate Moore for the honour.
“Peter is a former Club Captain and a champion of the game, and we are thrilled to honour him in what we hope and believe will be a truly historic moment for our Club.
“With Darcy leading the side to a Grand Final appearance in his first season as Captain, having Peter as an integral part of the day is so fitting.
“If we are crowned Premiers, it will be wonderful to see Peter hand over the Cup to Craig McRae and Darcy on behalf of our Members, fans and past players.”
