The big guns are back in business and the Pies are back on the winner’s list, defeating Fremantle by 21 points to register their first win of the 2023 NAB AFLW season.

Gun pair Bri Davey and Brit Bonnici, who only last week returned from long-term from knee injuries, dominated from the outset at Victoria Park on Sunday, gathering 39 disposals between them.

Sarah Rowe and Aishling Sheridan were strong too, as the Pies burst out of the blocks with a three goal to nothing opening term.

That was spearheaded by recruit Nell Morris-Dalton who kicked two, the second of which was a brilliant left foot snap to get the home side rolling, while Rowe snapped the third.

The Dockers upped their pressure in the second quarter, however second-gamer Eleri Morris found the big sticks to extend the margin and register her first AFLW major, with the Pies leading by 18 points at the main break.

Knowing Fremantle would come at out half-time with intent, Stephen Symonds’ side brought the intensity to them, pilling three more goals on to put the result beyond doubt.

Davey was everywhere in the third term and was rewarded with a major of her own, while Sabrina Frederick made the ball talk with a miraculous goal that dribbled its way through.

Fremantle brought the margin back in the final term after it had extended past six goals; however, the damage was done as the Pies secured victory.

Morris-Dalton finished with two goals, while singles went to Grace Campbell, Rowe, Davey, Frederick and Morris.

The Pies return to Vic Park next Sunday when they host Gold Coast. Secure your tickets here.
