Make-A-Wish ambassador Nick Maxwell and his teammates joined the Make-A-Wish (Portland) volunteers at the beginning of their Big Red Money Walk for Wishes from Melbourne to Portland on Friday morning.

The entire playing list gathered on Olympic Park Oval at 8am to meet the group of volunteers who were about to embark on their week long walk.

The walk is organised annually in the interest of raising funds to grant wishes to seriously ill children.

It was founded in 2009 following a child's simple wish for ‘one big red money’ ($20 note) to purchase toys for him and his siblings.

Last year, the walk raised in excess of $20,000, which went a long way towards making the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions come true.

Through Maxwell’s involvement with Make-A-Wish, Collingwood players are involved in numerous Make-A-Wish events throughout the year in the interest of raising awareness and funds.

Each year a group of players also travel to Portland to support the Make-A-Wish (Portland) Ball and assist with granting ‘Collingwood wishes’.
