The Collingwood Football Club is excited to announce the Daicos legacy will continue with brothers Josh and Nick each committing to the Club for at least six more years.
Josh and Nick are the sons of Club great and 1990 Premiership player Peter Daicos who played 250 games (kicking 549 goals) for Collingwood in a career that spanned from 1979 – 1993.
Josh Daicos will continue his career at the Club that drafted him as an 18-year-old Father Son selection with pick number 57 in the 2016 AFL National Draft.
He debuted for the Club in Round 22, 2017 against the Geelong Cats before experiencing a breakout year in 2020 when he was named in the 22under22 team and received the Goal of the Year Award.
The 24-year-old has continued to elevate his game and was recognised last year when he made the All-Australian squad of 40.
Josh has played 96 AFL games (kicking 55 goals) and is currently considered one of the game’s elite wingman.
Nick Daicos was drafted to Collingwood when he was selected as a Father Son with pick number four in the 2021 AFL National Draft.
A highly touted junior, Nick burst onto the scene when he made his AFL debut as an 18-year-old in the Club’s Round One match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium last year.
Much like his father’s debut, Nick showed quality attributes from his first game and continued to impress over the course of 2022, playing in every one of the Club’s 25 games last season.
His debut season saw him named in the 22under22 team, collect the AFLPA Best First Year Player Award and receive the prestigious AFL Rising Star Award.
The 20-year-old’s career has continued to develop into his second season and has this season been awarded the Anzac Day Medal and the Bob Rose-Charlie Sutton Medal.
Collingwood General Manager of Football Graham Wright said it was great to see the brothers commit to the Club for the long-term.
“Josh and Nick are both quality young men and talented footballers and we are looking forward to seeing them in the black-and-white stripes for years to come,” Wright said.
“Josh continues to impress and has really shown consistency in his form across the last couple of seasons. The work that he puts into his craft as a footballer combined with his determination to become better every day should be commended.
“Nick, in only his second season and with 44 games under his belt at the elite level, is continuing to grow as a footballer.
“Like his brother Josh, Nick’s professionalism, preparation and attention to detail is consistently elite and it is these habits which will hold them both in good stead for years to come.
“Both young men are great ambassadors for our Club. They are incredibly positive and outgoing people and have an openness and appetite to continue to learn and develop as people and footballers and we look forward to continuing to support that development at Collingwood.
“I would like to also acknowledge the role of Jeff Browne, Craig Kelly and the wider Collingwood Board for their continued endorsement of the AFL program.”
