Scott Pendlebury and his Collingwood teammates walked a little taller with a pair of teammates re-joining them on the field for Saturday night’s clash with the West Coast Eagles.
The returns of Tyson Goldsack and Adam Treloar were a source of motivation for the Magpies, who have witnessed first-hand the lengths taken to make unlikely returns a reality.
“I was so proud of both those boys the way they came back and played,” Pendlebury said on Collingwood Media podcast ‘Jock and Journo’.
“The motivating thing is you see how hard they work.
“It’s a credit to both of them in how they’ve stayed involved with the group, all the team meetings they’ve come to and all the learning they’ve done.
“They didn’t look like fish out of water out there.”
While ultimately unsuccessful in defeat, both Treloar and Goldsack played key roles in a 16-point loss to the Eagles.
Against West Coast’s impressive midfield, Treloar had 10 disposals in the first term and continued a strong performance to finish with 24 touches for the game.
Meanwhile, all six of Goldsack’s disposals were effective and he recorded nine one-percenters in a shut-down role on key Eagles Josh Kennedy.
“Goldy was huge on that last line,” Pendlebury said.
“The amount of plays he made coming off to help other people was just as impressive as the plays he made beating Kennedy one-on-one.
“Even Adsy, his first game back was straight back into a cauldron in West Coast in his first ever final. The stakes couldn’t have been any higher and he was coming off a double hamstring.
“The way he played was really good and he’ll only get better for the run.”
The returns of Goldsack and Treloar was just one talking point discussed on the latest ‘Jock and Journo’ podcast.
Pendlebury and co-host Jay Clark discussed flight disruptions in Perth, finals fixture disadvantages and preparation for the GWS Giants ahead of the Magpies’ big Semi Final at the MCG.
