The strength of the Magpie Army continues to shine after it was announced that Collingwood was the most watched sporting club in Australia in 2012.

Global sports research agency Repucom International confirmed that the Magpies were watched by more than 24.26 million television viewers during the 2012 season.

Grand Finalists Hawthorn (22.30 million) and Sydney (19.83 million) also figured prominently.

On the whole, Repucom International reported that there was an increase of 101 per cent in subscription television broadcasts in the past year.

The statistics come 12 months after the AFL announced its record $1.253 billion media rights deal and underline the power of Collingwood’s large supporter base.

In 2012, an average of 54,897 supporters walked through the turnstiles to watch Collingwood during the home and away season.

The figure is 9,620 ahead of its nearest rival, Essendon.

Collingwood home games also hosted an average crowd of 59,799, 12,000 more fans than any other club.
