Out of contract at the end of this season, Collingwood young gun Steele Sidebottom has confirmed on PieCast on Magpie Radio that he wants to remain in black and white stripes for the remainder of his career.

As one of the regular hosts on the club’s podcast show, Sidebottom was on the front foot when questioned by a Magpie supporter regarding his future via Collingwood’s official Twitter account (www.twitter.com/collingwood_fc).

“I am going to be black and white for the remainder of my career,” stated the 19-year-old.

“I am not out of contract until the end of the year so I won’t have to worry about it until the end of the year.”

Collingwood’s chief of football Geoff Walsh confirmed the club is working with Sidebottom’s management to secure the rising star.

“We are currently having discussions with Steele’s management and we hope to lock something away in the near future.”

Sidebottom arrived at the 2008 AFL draft with considerable fanfare after his 10-goal haul in the TAC Cup grand final playing for the Murray Bushrangers.  Selected by the club with overall pick 10, the midfielder has played every game in his second season while averaging 18.2 disposals and one goal.

Sharing the microphone with Sidebottom was another one of the club’s exciting prospects Brent Macaffer.

“It’s good to hear.  I was wondering about that (Steele’s future) on the weekend”, Macaffer said.

“It’s good to hear that he is going to sign up and not leave us because he is a pretty important player for us going forward.”
