A hot evening down at the AIA Vitality Centre saw the Hot Pies Summer fan event and intra-club match play out in full swing, with plenty of Pies fans packing out Olympic Park Oval.
Scott Selwood led Team Scoot (white) and Hayden Skipworth headed Team Skip (black) in a battle of the Pies, as Team Scoot came away with the bragging rights.
Both teams showcased plenty of Pies tenacity, as veterans and newcomers alike put on strong performances across the field.
New recruit Billy Frampton impressed in his first hit-out in the black and white.
“[It was] good to finally get out there, blow out the cobwebs and get stuck into it with the boys,” Frampton said. “It was tough conditions, the ball was flying around as well so it made it a little tricky but it was good fun down there.”
Meanwhile, Tom Wilson made a successful return to the field after undergoing back surgery last year.
“When you go through something like that, you can only be grateful to be back out here and having fun,” Wilson said. “It’s been a long time coming… it’s just really fun being back out there playing a bit of footy.”
Frampton and Wilson both lauded the impact of newcomer Dan McStay, who had an impact in the forward-line, while the defensive mainstay of Nathan Murphy, Jeremy Howe and Isaac Quaynor was as reliable as ever for Team Scoot.
Pat Lipinski played a handy role for both sides, switching to Team Skip after half-time, while Mason Cox was a key aerial threat and Nick Daicos showed no signs of slowing down after an excellent debut season in 2022.
