It’s not every day you get to play against Steele Sidebottom, ask Jack Ginnivan what his favourite pre-game meal is, practice your handballs with Trent Bianco or kick a goal against Darcy Moore.

For hundreds of local kids in Traralgon and surrounds this week, this is exactly what was on offer during school visits and clinics hosted by their favourite Magpies.

Collingwood players spent two full days in Traralgon, Moe, Churchill and surrounds giving back to local communities and engaging with the next generation of aspiring young footballers and fans.

It wasn’t just the kids who had dreamt of these moments, Collingwood players were itching to be involved after COVID prevented Community Camps from going ahead for two years.

Whether it was during a whole school Q&A, running games at a clinic, or meeting fans at our first signing session for the year, there wasn’t a Magpie without a smile for 48 hours.

Engaging in community initiatives such as these is about more than community connection, igniting a love of the game, or inspiring the next generation at a grassroots level – it’s also about having fun. Undoubtedly, both players and children in attendance can tick that box.

As a Club, Collingwood is determined to continue strengthening its community ties in all respects and look forward to our next gathering on Friday, 17th February for Hot Pies Summer Family Night.
