Collingwood has completed a three-way trade with the Geelong Cats and Hawthorn that will see Tom Mitchell arrive at the Club.

Collingwood have signed Tom Mitchell from Hawthorn and received pick 25 in the 2022 National Draft, in exchange for Ollie Henry who will depart the Club for the Cats. Collingwood will also give picks 41 and 50 in the upcoming draft to Hawthorn.

Collingwood is Mitchell’s third AFL club, having been selected as a father-son draft pick by the Sydney Swans in 2011.

Mitchell made his AFL debut two years later and went on to play a total of 65 games for the Swans before being traded to Hawthorn in 2016.

Across his 10-year career Mitchell has played 171 games and kicked 76 goals.

The 2018 Brownlow Medallist is also a two-time Best and Fairest winner at Hawthorn.

Henry arrives at Kardinia Park as a part of the deal. The key forward was drafted with the Pies’ first pick (17) in 2020 and made his debut the following year in Round One against the Western Bulldogs.

Henry went on to play 25 games and kick 28 goals across two campaigns in the black and white.

The 20-year-old expressed interest to return home to Geelong at the beginning of the trade period.

Collingwood GM of Football, Graham Wright, welcomed Mitchell to Collingwood and thanked Henry for his service.

“We’ve had some interest in Tom for some time now and are pleased to have come to terms with him arriving at the Club,” Wright said.

“Tom has been a prolific ball getter and clearance player across his career which made him an attractive get.

“We are pleased to have Tom on board, and we look forward to welcoming him to our football program.

“We also thank Ollie for being a part of our football program over the past two years.

“Ollie showed strong potential at AFL level this year and we wish him all the best for the next phase of his football career.”
