Collingwood is back in the top eight after an 11-point win over the Giants on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at the 'G.
"(The playing group) had the ability to galvanise themselves this week and go out and execute - for three quarters of the game we were proud of their efforts," Craig McRae said in his post-match presser.
"(On off-field distractions) Your attention gets pulled away from what you need to do.
"Without speaking for others, you get asked about it down at the shops."
The Pies inaccuracy in front of goal kept the Giants in the game but the home side held on for its fifth consecutive victory.
"We finished with 22 points, some of those were rushed, but in modern footy if you don't execute you give the opposition hope," Fly said.
"We're winning games and there's so much upside... but kicking goals is a massive part of the game."
Darcy Cameron finished with 23 hitouts, five clearances, eight marks and two goals and announced a three-year contract extension after the game.
"He deserves every bit of that (contract), he's really stepped up since Brodie has been out," Fly said.
"We are rapt with how he is playing."
Brayden Maynard produced a vintage Bruz performance in his 150th game - he finished with 22 touches at 86 per cent efficiency, nine intercepts, four score involvements, four inside 50s and six rebound 50s.
"We celebrated his milestone yesterday at the club," Fly said.
"His competitive nature is something we feed off and today was probably his best game for the year."
Collingwood is now seventh on the ladder after five wins on the bounce, but Fly reaffirmed that he's not yet thinking about finals.
"It has been a big week to be honest, I'm looking forward to going home and putting my feet up," he said.
"I'm learning on the job... I am loving what I'm doing and the support I have around me and I'm hoping the fans are loving what we're producing on the field as well.
"Leigh (Matthews) came in on Friday and spoke to the group... he didn't mention winning once and he didn't talk about outcomes very often.
"I'm a process guy - we keep doing what we're doing.
"This is a tough competition and there's no easy games.
"I think you're always consistently building.
"We're gelling and playing consistently at the moment but I think we're always growing."
