Quirky Fact: Despite Geelong’s dominance in recent years, Collingwood has still managed to sneak in some hefty victories. The trend started while Geelong was in the depths of a slump in 2006, with a 102 point win in Round 8. Two years later in Round 9, the Magpies inflicted similar damage on the undefeated Cats, trouncing them by 86 points in Friday night footy. Another two years passed before Collingwood again put them to the sword in the Preliminary Final of 2010. They led by as much as 81 points during the third quarter, before easing off to win by a comfortable 41 points.

Finals Facts - a history of the two teams:
Collingwood has met Geelong in 22 finals, equal with Melbourne as the club’s most frequent finals opponent. The Magpies have split the points with 11 wins apiece, and have met the Cats in the finals on three occasions in the Mick Malthouse era, all in Preliminary Finals. In Grand Finals, Collingwood have won two (1930 and 1953), and Geelong three (1925, 1937 and 1952). They have also recently met in the Pre-Season Grand Final, in the long-forgotten 2009 NAB Grand decider. On that occasion, the Cats belted the Woods by 76 points at Docklands.
