Collingwood’s VFLW team won their second match in a row against Williamstown Seagulls winning 6.2 (38) to 2.6 (18).
The first score on the board was a clever goal from the goal square from Zander and the attacking momentum continued throughout the day.
With goals from Pedersen, Smith and three from Barnett, it was Collingwood who lead at every main break.
Whilst Collingwood were dominant on the scoreboard, it was not an easy feat. Williamstown applied enormous pressure throughout the match across the ground.
It was the great work from the Collingwood defence that managed to stop many of their scoring opportunities.
Vice-Captain Georgia Ricardo was voted best on ground after a great performance, applying pressure and creating opportunities for the midfielders and forwards throughout the match.
Captain Caitlin Bunker said “I was particularly impressed with Georgia Riccardo, whose foot skills on the wing were second to none”.
“I was also very impressed with Bella Smith, who ended up rucking most of the game after we unfortunately lost Sarah King to a hand injury early in the match” Bunker said.
“We played our brand of football for four quarters, and every player played their role. Our backline in particular have been superb all season, and their ability to compete in the air and on the ground was outstanding yesterday” Bunker said.
Caitlin Bunker had another stellar game, with 23 disposals and nine tackles to help the team to victory.
“I’m super proud of how the team performed yesterday. Our theme for the match was ‘relentless’, and we lived up to it” Bunker said.
“It’s nice to feel like we’re building as a group week to week and returning to our style of football."
In the third term, Collingwood kept Williamstown scoreless extending the lead to 22 points at three quarter time.
With a final margin of 18 points at full time, it was a well-deserved win with a lot of positives to take from the match.
Collingwood will take on Hawthorn in round 4 this weekend. The date and time are to be confirmed.
The match will be free entry and will also be livestreamed on the VFLW YouTube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/AFLVictoria.
