Collingwood’s AFLW side has signed Olivia Meagher as a replacement player for the 2022 season.
Meagher, who played with the Pies’ VFLW team in 2021, has been elevated to the senior side following the movement of Joanna Lin to the inactive list.
Lin recently underwent surgery on her right shoulder having suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation during a pre-season training session last year.
The 19-year-old midfielder played a total of nine games in her debut season in 2021.
Collingwood’s Head of Women’s Football Jess Burger said while the program is sad for Lin, she’ll continue to play an important role within the program.
“We’re all extremely disappointed for Jo”, Burger said.
“Even though she won’t be on the field this year, we know she’ll continue to bring great energy and will remain a strong support to our group. As part of our Collingwood family, we will work extremely closely with Jo to ensure she is well supported during her rehabilitation.”
Despite spending majority of her time in the midfield during the VFLW season, Meagher has established herself as a versatile player who can play across all three lines.
The former Eastern Ranges captain has also impressed during her time as a train on with the Pies’ AFLW program in 2021 and throughout the 2022 pre-season.
The 19-year-old will wear number 28 for the Pies this season.
“We’re delighted to have Olivia join us as a replacement player in 2022,” Burger said.
“Having been involved in our women’s football program for some time now, Olivia has developed strong relationships within our club and is well respected amongst the group.
“This is a great opportunity for Olivia to take her game to the next level and we look forward to watching her further develop as a player and person in our program.”
Collingwood will kick off its 2022 season against Carlton at Ikon Park this Sunday, January 9.
