As the AFL season comes to a close, the VFL season is ramping up.

With the pandemic significantly impacting the season, we wait to see what will happen, and how it impacts Collingwood’s finals run.

We’ve put together all the hypotheticals for the run home…

In a COVID-19 free scenario, the Pies will take on the undefeated Footscray in a game with huge ramifications.

Win, and the Pies guarantee finals with a seventh place finish with Williamstown the most likely opponent in week one.

Lose, and it gets a bit more complicated, with Pies relying on other teams to ensure a finals run.

The other two fixtures that matter are 10th placed Frankston taking on ninth place Werribee and eighth placed Greater Western Sydney taking against already eliminated Essendon.

If the Giants lose then it is simple, the Pies will finish seventh. However, if the Giants win then Frankston must beat Werribee for the Pies to sneak in at eighth position.

Another scenario is that there is no VFL football played this weekend. In this case, the top-8 will play a knock-out style competition which would see Collingwood finish seventh and play against the Southport Sharks.

The final, and worst case scenario is that restrictions prevent play for the next two weeks, meaning just the top-4 will play off for a spot in the grand final. A scenario that would see Collingwood miss out on finals in 2021.
