Last time we met
Collingwood 90 d West Coast 45 (Round 20, 2021)
Collingwood piled on the first eight goals of the game and recorded a comprehensive victory over the Eagles in front of empty stands at the MCG. Acting Collingwood captain Steele Sidebottom led from the front with 33 disposals and a goal, while Jordan De Goey also impressed with 34 touches.
Key match-ups
Darcy Moore v Jack Darling
Darling will be eager to recapture his 2021 form after an interrupted pre-season, while Moore has been an imposing presence down back in our first three rounds, notching up 17 marks and 14 rebound 50s.
Brody Mihocek v Jeremy McGovern
Our leading goal kicker will likely line up against the four-time All-Australian defender. Mihocek has booted six goals in three rounds - his best haul so far was three goals against St Kilda - and he's averaging two marks a game (eight total after round three). McGovern has been in commanding form with a whopping 27 marks (eight contested) and 21 rebound 50s to his name in the first three rounds.
Look out for
Pat Lipinski (if you weren't already). Simply, Lippa makes Collingwood better and after only three games he's become an important cog in our midfield. In Craig McRae's own words: "He's an outstanding young man. He's an incredible athlete, one of our best runners, he links us up really well and he's tough around centre bounces. He hasn't put a foot wrong and I think everyone here is better for having him in our environment." His stats are elite: 77 disposals, 27 contested possessions, 10 marks, 10 tackles and three goals in black and white so far.
The inside word
With Jordan De Goey serving a one game suspension and Taylor Adams sidelined (health and safety protocols), there will be an opportunity for others to step up and play more midfield minutes.
