The Collingwood Football Club would like to express its sadness at the passing of former player Grant Wilmot at the age of 59.

Grant played five games in the Black and White under Tom Hafey in 1980.

He made his debut in a loss to Richmond in round four, collecting twelve disposals, and held his place for the next four weeks. His standout performance came in a 60-point win over St Kilda at Victoria Park when he kicked four goals from 20 disposals and polled three Brownlow votes. His fifth and final league game was in a draw against Fitzroy in round eight. He did not feature at senior level again.

A one-time professional boxer, Wilmot was a product of the Magpie heartland, playing his junior football with Montmorency in Melbourne's northern suburbs. He graduated into the senior side, featuring in the club's 1976 premiership triumph. He crossed to VFA club Preston where he managed 38 senior games in three years before arriving at Victoria Park.

Three broken bones in three years ended his VFL career before its time, but he ended his career in the northern suburbs, returning to Montmorency and later playing for Heidelberg West and Eltham.

Once his career finished, Wilmot moved into coaching, leading Eltham, Croydon, Heidelberg and finally Montmorency, where he finished in 1997. He is a member of Montmorency's Team of Champions, named on the half forward flank.

Collingwood would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Wilmot family and all Grant's loved ones.
