Pies surpass membership record
Collingwood has surpassed its 2013 membership record, signing 80,793 members in season 2014.
The 2014 membership figure is a record for the AFL and for Australian sporting clubs and puts Collingwood in the company of some of the biggest football clubs in the world.
Collingwood CEO, Gary Pert said that while all Collingwood supporters would be disappointed that things didn’t go to plan on-field this season, the membership record was further proof of the loyalty of the Collingwood supporter base.
“In a year that has been difficult for everyone at the Collingwood Football Club, 80,793 of our supporters have still shown that they wish to be connected to the club at a level greater than just barracking for the team.
“Our members should feel proud of the fact that they have created something monumental in Australian sport, it is a vindication of the belief that Collingwood fans hold a deep and unique passion for their football club.”
In 2014, Collingwood’s support continued to build nationally, with the number of non-Victorian members approaching 15,000.
The International Magpie Insider membership and addition of an option to watch every game online helped continue strong growth across Collingwood’s international membership base, with members signed up in 88 countries.
“We have had a single, clear strategy for the last six years to simply ask supporters what experience they want as a member and then, as a club, do everything in our power to deliver it.
“We also understand that we have a responsibility to keep the price of membership as low as possible so that all Collingwood supporters have the choice to become members” Pert said.
“The players and administration would like to thank every one of our 80,793 2014 members for their dedicated and valued support. "
