Several of Collingwood’s recent additions have been assigned their new jumper numbers for the 2014 season.
With the careers of several club favourites coming to an end in 2013, some important numbers were up for grabs as the players returned from their off-season.
Former Greater Western Sydney Giant Taylor Adams has accepted the No. 13 jumper made famous by Dale Thomas.
Adams, who was traded to Collingwood last month in exchange for Heath Shaw, wore No. 11 in his time with the Giants but was originally drafted with selection No. 13 in 2011.
The most recent players to wear No. 13 for Collingwood are Dale Thomas (2006-2013), Richard Cole (2002-2005) and Andrew Ukovic (2001).
Alan Didak’s old No. 4 is now in possession of Brodie Grundy.
Although they were born 11 years apart, the pair hails from South Australia and both were originally drafted in the first round of the National Draft.
Prior to Didak, the No. 4 was dormant for four years, Aaron James’ season-long stint in 1997 aside. Club CEO Gary Pert wore No. 4 from 1992-1995.
Another South Australian, Ben Kennedy, has upgraded to a lower number. He will wear the No. 7 most recently worn by Andrew Krakouer (2011-2013), Paul Medhurst (2007-2010) and Chad Morrison (2005-2006).
Sam Dwyer has crossed the locker room floor, shifting from No. 41 to No. 2.
Dwyer wore No. 41 in his first 19 games for the club but the end of Jordan Russell’s stay at the Westpac Centre created an opening.
Others to wear No. 2 in recent times include Chris Tarrant (2011-2012), Sean Rusling (2006-2010).
Jesse White will follow in the footsteps of another ex-Swan, Darren Jolly, and don No. 18 in 2014. White, who wore No. 18 during his time at Sydney, joins Jolly, Marty Clarke (2008-2009) and Paul Licuria (2000-2007) as recent wearers of the jumpers.
White’s Sydney teammate Tony Armstrong has been assigned No. 27, which was worn by Kennedy in 2013 and also Simon Buckley (2011-2012) and Jarrad Blight (2009-2010).
Patrick Karnezis rounds out the new allocations, taking No. 33 - the number recently worn by Jackson Paine for whom he was traded by the Brisbane Lions.
Before Paine (2012-2013), Brad Dick (2007-2011) and Cameron Cloke (2003-2006) also had stints in No. 33.
It means that Nos. 30, 35, 39, 41, 46 and 47 are available for the players Collingwood snares in the upcoming National and Rookie Drafts.
No. 35 is now allocated to the club’s first draft selection each year, which means it will be worn by the player who joins the club with pick No. 6 in the National Draft.
